MYSORE WEEK

We’ll do 6 days of morning Mysore style self-practice as in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. (the first Mysore morning is available during the Weekend Workshop) These Mysore classes are small and friendly, so you’ll get lots of individual attention.

We’re asking you to commit to five days minimum, and in return you will get a memorable experience on your path of transformation. You will have the time to get to know David and for him to get to know you and your practice. By the end of the week you’ll have some practical techniques to help you work on your challenging areas of the practice.

This weekend workshop is ideal for teachers, those who wish to become teachers, as well as anyone else who wants to take their Ashtanga Yoga practice to a deeper physical, mental and spiritual levels.

Saturday 2 MAY, , 9 -10.30 AM

Led Primary Series with Sanskrit Count: Combing through the practice

Using the traditional Sanskrit count and focusing on the rhythm of the breath, David will lead us through the entire Primary Series, as taught in Mysore. In the tradition, every posture asana has a specific number of counted vinyasa to enter and exit, all linked closely to the breath. This wonderful teaching method is an invaluable tool for all practitioners as it provides focus and mindfulness in developing the personal practice.  Practicing with Sanskrit count also shows respect for the traditional roots of Ashtanga Yoga. Along the way, David will offer some deeply valuable detailed instructions on how to keep your practice clean, correct and consistent.

Saturday, 11 AM  - 12.30 PM

Learn to Float: Graceful Vinyasas

Focusing on the vinyasas of the Sun Salutations, and the transitional jumping vinyasas, this session offers detailed techniques, alignment and energetic principles that take us towards graceful, weightless transitions between postures in the practice. This session is useful for students beginning their Ashtanga path, for teachers needing tips and techniques to share with students, and for more experienced practitioners looking to inspire and deepen their practice.

Saturday, 1.30 -3 PM

Alignments and Adjustments

Take a more detailed look at the alignment, adjustments and basic anatomy of key poses in the Primary Series. Learn about the latest instructions on what is “correct” in Mysore as taught by Sharath Jois currently. As a student or a teacher you will develop a better understanding of what to observe in your own or others’ body during practice and energetically experience the state of the asana.

Saturday 3.30—5.30 PM

Learn to Float: Arm Balances

Arm balances are a powerful tool to help us cultivate focus, strength and self-confidence. This session explores the fundamental arm balances of the Ashtanga practice. From more simple lifts to handstands, David breaks down arm balances into four basic elements. Delving into detailed alignment and energetic principles, this session is useful for students beginning their journey with arm balances, for teachers needing tips and techniques to share with students and for more experienced practitioners looking to inspire and deepen their practice.

Sunday 03 MAY, 9 -12 AM

Mysore Style Self-practice

Mysore style self-practice is the traditional format for practicing Ashtanga Yoga. Led classes are a fantastic way to learn about the vinyasa, but Mysore-style is where you follow your own breath and deepen your focus and meditation skills. This is a unique opportunity to practice in a room full of devoted Ashtanga students, and experience adjustments and guidance from a teacher who leads one of the world’s largest Mysore programs outside of Mysore.

Sunday , 2 - 4.15 PM

Intro to Nadi Shodhana: Key postures of the Intermediate Series

Ashtanga’s Second Series of postures is designed to cleanse and charge our nervous system. This session will provide an accessible introduction to some of the deeper backbends, hip-openers and arm-balances that make the Intermediate Series such a transformative practice. All levels of practitioners are invited to attend.

Sunday 4.30-5.30 PM
