What makes Ashtanga yoga different from the rest of the yoga approaches is the breathing.  Ashtanga yoga involves synchronizing the movements with the breath which creates internal heat and detoxifies the body. The mastery of the breathand poving with it allows for safe progression and study of more challenging postures intelligently. Through gaining control over the breath, stabiity of body and focus of mind, the practice is built step by step over time  and the experience turns into a moving meditation. 

At Ashtanga Yoga Sofia, we do believe that the healing transformative power and the beauty of Ashtanga yoga is in the consistency of the practice and the steadiness of the teaching. Rogour and challenge are necessary tools for change and we feel that they are not incompatible with a safe and intelligent approach. We teach authentically everything we have learned from our teachers with respect to the tradition and individuality of each practitioner.

1. INTRODUCTION TO ASHTANGA - 4 WEEKS COURSE FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS

This FOUR WEEKS INTRO COURSE for bsolute beginners will introduce you to the Mysore style of practicing slowly, step by step. Learning the postures one by one you will remember the sequencing ofasanas thatmake up the Primary Series Ashtanga. Once you get the "conditions" of one posture and you can perform it with ease, you will be leraning the next in the sequence. IN this way, day by day, you will come to try most of the postures as well as the transitions between them. Of course, each one of you will get asafr into the sequence as your physical and mental abilities allow. At the end, everyone will feel comfortable enough with practicing the Mysore style so you will be able to join our regular Mysore classes and experinece how effective this method actually is for developing a strong personal practice. 

The course is organizedon certain days and hours and is limited to 5 people

COMMITMENT:

2 days /week - TUESDAYS & FRIDAYS at 08.00  - 09.15 

(groups may be organized at other times if more people are available)

The first week, your practice may be very short - as long as 30-45 min, but eventually they will grow to about 90 mins)

2. REGULAR MYSORE PRACTICE

The best way to start learning Ashtanga has always been and still is the regular daily Mysore practices. You can join them at any time, but we require a minimum of 1 month commitment for at least 3 times a week or - better - every day.  You re welcome whenever you are rady - just give us a call the dy before or simply come to the shala and hop into the Mysore room. Please, check the MOON DAYS beforhand as on these days the shala is closed and there is no practice. We also usually are closed for official holidays unless otherwise announced as well as Sunday.

 

 To ensure the best instruction possible, we do not allow drop-in for beginners, but you are welcome to come and watch how a Mysore practice goes at the regular Mysore hours.  You do not need to give us notice for that, just come, sit in a corner and observe.

 

Drop-in isn't safe for beginners and in addition, you cannot understand much from a single practice. That is why we offer beginners a few STARTER PACKAGES to ease your first months in Ashtanga. Take advantage of these super-prices offered to fit into any budget.

If you are still unsure if you will make it, you can join our beginner INTRO TO ASHTANGA seminar or the PRIMARY SERIES INTENSIVE training. They both do not require experience and will introduce you to key conceots, techniques and postures safely and with maximum understanding.

3. PRIVATE SESSIONS

PRIMARY SERIES INTENSIVE

One week intensive course that is geared toward students who want to deepen their practice and understand the philosophy of Ashtanga yoga. If you are already a teacher this course will create a context for what it is we are teaching and how to frame it for students.

YOGA ANATOMY SEMINAR

The yoga anatomy workshop takes your anatomy knowledge to the next level. You will be guided through key anatomical principles and concepts that help you see beyond the parts and pieces of anatomy. Come explore the integration of anatomy and movement.

THE MATRIX OF ASHTANGA 

Ashtanga yoga is perhaps one of the most misunderstood styles in the yoga world even though so many other styles are influenced by it. In this workshop we first understand the context within which the Ashtanga yoga method came to be. Then we look at the essential elements that make it distinct and an extremely internal practice.

SOMETHING ELSE YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Please wear comfortable clean clothes that will not limit your mocvements.

  • If you have your own mat, please bring it with you. You can always rent amat and a sweat  towel from us for 1 lv, but it is more hygenic  to use your own. 

  • Take a shower before practice.  A clean body doesn't smell even when sweaty. 

  • Please, abstein from using perfume and/or deodorantbefore practice. The heat and sweat increase odor. It applies to essential oils and body lotions as well. 

  • Please, clean your mat after practice. 

  • Your first practice may be as long as 30 mins or 90 mins. Please come and go quietly.

  • If it is your very first time with us, please come 10 mins earlier to make yourself comfortable in the Mysore room. 

  • Come on an empty stomach. water is not alowed during practice, but after practice, drink a lot. We have provided fresh water and tea for you.
